Sinclair Announces Major Spectrum Export Expansion
Sinclair Research announced that the ZX Spectrum was to be launched in more than 30 countries worldwide during March and April 1983. With UK sales running at around 50,000 units per month, Sinclair planned to increase Spectrum production substantially to meet overseas demand. The company said it was initially concentrating on European markets, while also reporting large advance orders from agents in South America and the Far East and strengthening its export operation to develop new markets in the Middle East and the Third World. Sinclair's managing director Nigel Searle anticipated initial overseas sales of 15,000 Spectrums per month, rising sharply during the remainder of the year.
